Copyright Policy & Content Removal

Self Nigeria (self.name.ng) respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects its users to do the same. In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), we will respond promptly to notices of alleged infringement that are reported to our designated Copyright Agent.

​If you are a copyright owner, or authorized to act on behalf of one, please report alleged copyright infringements taking place on or through our website by completing the following notice.

How to File a Takedown Request

​To be valid, your claim must be a written communication that includes the following:

  1. Identification of the Copyrighted Work: A description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed.
  2. Identification of the Infringing Material: The specific URL(s) on self.name.ng containing the material you wish to have removed.
  3. Contact Information: Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  4. Statement of Good Faith: A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. Statement of Accuracy: A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
  6. Signature: A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.

Important Notes

  • Verification: Upon receipt of a valid notification, Self Nigeria will take immediate action to remove or disable access to the infringing material.
  • Misrepresentation: Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be subject to liability for damages.
  • Biographies: Please note that biographies are often considered “Fair Use” or factual reporting. However, if we have used a copyrighted photograph without permission, we will happily remove or credit the image upon request.

 

Counter-Notification

​If you believe your content was removed by mistake (for example, if you actually have the rights to the music), you may send us a counter-notice. This must include your contact details, identification of the material removed, and a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the courts for the district in which you are located.
